Established in 1908, the University of the Philippines (UP) is the country’s premiere university consistently ranked top one in the Philippines and one of the highest in Southeast Asia. Possessing several Centers of Excellence and national research institutes across various fields, UP has become the alma mater of the Philippines’ leading politicians, scholars, scientists, artists, and diplomats. Its main campus in Diliman, Quezon City rests on 493 sprawling hectares right in the heart of the National Capital Region, accommodating UP Diliman’s twenty-thousand students and five thousand employees. As one of the last green spaces of Metro Manila, UPD also houses a rich ecosystem of flora and fauna. The UPD administration is committed to preserving campus biodiversity by working towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, namely through six Sustainable Development Goals: Health and Wellbeing (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Sustainable Cities and Communities (SDG 11), Climate Action (SDG 13), and Partnership for the Goals (SDG 17).
As a national university, the UPD Campus is open for the public to explore its academic resources, engage in recreational activities, and appreciate the art installations within the numerous galleries and museums or those scattered around the area. Participants to PHIMUN will get a chance to enjoy the UPD campus, explore the wide array of cuisine offered by its small food establishments, and learn about the rich history of the University in the context of Philippine nation-building.
